Sesame Street: Elmo's Christmas Countdown

Elmo Christmas Countdown-- A favorite for any Elmo fan!
My son is almost 2 years old and a huge Elmo fan. We purchased this DVD under a week ago and he's already watched it 6 times! He's requesting it all the time ! The scenes with Anne Hathaway, Alicia Keys and Jamie Foxx are memorable and my husband and I find ourselves singing the songs long after the DVD is over. A must for any Elmo fan. I can see this as a pre-Christmas ritual from now on.

Elmo's Christmas is great!
After listening to and watching this video daily for about a month, I still love it! The songs are catchy and the guest appearances add different touches to an already great "cast". I will continue to give my son the option of watching this Elmo DVD even after Christmas!

Elmo's Christmas Countdown......
Elmo is the man,and has managed to get some famous faces on his lastest holiday TV movie "Elmo's Christmas Countdown." Airing in 2007 on ABC Networks during the Christmas Season Elmo and Co left me wanting an encore, as other holiday specials were receiving. Alas,no repeats, and not a return come the 2008 season. This made me eager to find this special. A viewing of a daytime talk show mentioned the film's release this year.
I bought the movie, and watched start to finish. It follows as the TV airing. There seems to be no extras, other than closed caption.
Those with motion disorders may be uncomfortable with the moving motions at the start of the film.

The Good Witch

Very sweet family movie!
Catherine Bell (JAG, Army Wives) shines again on another project. CB just shows that she can do it all-first action -adventure, drama, and now romantic comedy! This time she plays Cassie, a sweet and mysterious young woman who moves into a town run by a stuffy wife of the mayor. Cassie teaches about tolerance and looking at yourself in a postive way. Very strong message for kids. My niece and nephew loved it and ask when will there be a sequel! As does their aunt! Buy it- wont be disappointed!!

Thank you for finally releasing this movie !!!
Thanks to whom ever finaly released this movie, We have wanted it since 2008 when it was pulled right before shipment. I ordered 2 so my daughter can have one as well, We love the Good Witch now we want the Good Witch's Garden Please soon ?? I wish they would make a third movie since Jake asked Cassie to marry him. Hope everyone enjoys it as much as we will.

Wanted to buy Good Witch
I am also very bummed that it looks like "The Good Witch" will no longer be available. I just adored this movie, and so wanted to get it on DVD. I wonder what happened to make them decide to make it unavailable, but I hope that it does indeed come back on the market in the near future. I wish I knew who to contact to ask about this and request more info. What a great little film though!

Sesame Street: A Sesame Street Christmas Carol

Worst Movie Ever!!!
This movie is just a compilation of other Seame Street Movies about Christmas. Worst of all it has a lot of that annoying elmo in it. Save your money and get Christmas Eve on Sesame Street instead. That is a much better Muppet Christmas Story.

4 Film Favorites: Whoopi Goldberg (Bogus, Clara's Heart, Corrina, Corina, Made In America)

Film Favorites...NOT!!!!!
I don't know who thought to lump these movies together, but they got it all wrong. I've been a huge Whoopi fan since her unforgetable acting debut in "The Color Purple". While I've been waiting with baited breath to see "Clara's Heart" finally get its due and be released here in the States on DVD (thank you!!!!), why link it to these other forgetable titles? "Made In America", "Bogus"...are you kidding me? If they wanted to compile a Whoopi collection why not focus on her dramatic roles; the ones that truly compliment "Clara's Heart such as "Sarafina" and "The Long Walk Home" both great and equally underrated movies. I guess "Corrina Corrina" falls in line, but I still think the choice of movies could have been better. Luckily "Clara's Heart" is worth the price of this collection by itself.

Just wanted one
I already owned Bogus and Corrina Corrina on DVD, and wasn't interested in Made in America. I just wanted Clara's Heart on DVD (already had it on VHS) and this was the only product that had it. So, I bought it. Actually, I'm glad I did -- my video cabinet is getting over-loaded so having 4 movies that fit into the space of one helps. As to the movies themselves, Whoopie does a fabulous job in all four. I just have a little problem with Ted Danson (Made in America) -- I don't particularly like his acting, but that's just my personal preference. Bottom line -- if you like Whoopie this DVD is worth owning.

Whoppie Goldberg Collection
I LOVE Whoppie Goldberg and having these four movies together is great! All of the 4 are excellent movies - ones that the whole family can enjoy. All of them involve children and their families, the modern day hardships that children experience - even though the movies are 10 years++ old - they still are relevant in what children experience. All of the movies are heart warming and very funny. My favorite is Corrina Corrina - and now that i have seen the others - they are great too. They also deal with the black/white issue - how children see it before they are jaded - how they work through it with love - not hatred. Excellent movies!

Other half of Season 2
This set contains the rest of Season 2 of Transformers Generation 1. The episodes that were in Season 2 Vol. 1 were great, and this set containing the rest of the Season 2 episodes won't disappoint if you loved the Vol. 1 set. All of Season 2 we see some new characters come into the series along with some memorable events that go on throughout the entire second season of Transformers. While I may not be a Transformers geek like my bro is, but I can still appreciate what Generation 1 had offered through the first 2 seasons of the show. I give the second half of Season 2 a 4.5 out of 5.

More great Transformers episodes.
The only thing I need to add for this review was in the "Cosmic Rust" episode, Menasor says "damn it" when the aerialbots attack him. I completely forgot about him saying that! Transformers.......nothing like it as far as 80's cartoons go.

A Greater Yes

A heart warmer and a tear jerker.
We greatly enjoyed this movie. It will have you rejoicing one moment and welling up with tears the next. It is an awesome story of faith and perserverance, and when it's all said and done, you come to realize (if you don't already) that our God is sovereign, and in the end, it is His will that will be done. I strongly recommend this movie for any one, but especially for church teen groups and young adults. I am a pastor and I will be showing this movie in our church.

Powerful film sometimes comical sometimes heart wrenching
Faith Based Filming has come a long way toward taking their place alongside typical Hollywood flicks. It is shown to be a lower budget production from viewing the bonus behind the scenes material, where cast double as filming assistants but the job gets done, and done well. In this case it tells a TRUE story, perhaps somewhat altered to get years down to minutes, but the drama is certainly encapsulated. It is the story of Amy Newhouse, her battle with cancer, the ups and downs, and the faith and hope that she was able to not only keep herself, but pass along to others during the ordeal.

What a perfect choice it was to cast Anne Underwood as Amy. She is joy personified. Her bubbly personality is contagious right off the screen. She is only the first of truly believable characters in this film. Another that must be mentioned is Paul Willis playing a teen with punk hair. I'm a retired teacher, and believe me when I say these two were honestly teen-realistic. I've taught...

Get ready to cry!
The faith this young girl shows is amazing. It makes you think, do I have that kind of faith? Could I have that kind of faith, if it was me, or one of my loved ones. WOW

4 Film Favorites: Kevin Costner (The Bodyguard: Special Edition, Rumor Has It, Tin Cup, Upside of Anger)

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR
FOUR MOVIES FOR LESS THAN $10.00.THESE ARE DOUBLE SIDED DVD'S.THE VIDEO IS VERY COMPRESSED AND THE SOUND IS NOT VERY GOOD.THEY WILL NOT UPGRADE TO 1080.BUT THEY WERE CHEAP!!

Four good movies............
If you are a Kevin Costner fan or not, this is an excellent buy for the money. Of course, if you are a Costner fan, then it's a GREAT buy!! Four good movies. Too good of a buy to pass up in my opinion!!

Beguiling Costner performances in three enjoyable films
This economically packaged set of four DVDs is notable for featuring Costner at his most casually appealing best. Never a histrionic actor, he displays his subtle and nuanced charms in all four movies, three of which garnered accolades. The double-sided DVDs are perfectly adequate with bonus features (trailers, interviews, etc.), and the packaging is utilitarian. But, of course, these sets are purchased for the quality of the films, and you, if a Costner fan, will not be disappointed.

"The Upside of Anger," "The Bodyguard," and "Tin Cup" are all fine movies displaying compactly well-written scripts and truly effective acting by his co-stars and supporting cast members. It is interesting to note that Costner's very cavalier, lackadaisical presence and characterizations (even "slacker-like") create sparks with the more solid, realistic-rooted, and pragmatic roles of his co-stars, female and otherwise (man, child, teenager, dog). Joan Allen and Rene Russo are very effective...

Circuit

STEREOTYPE CHARACTERS
The characters in this movie are not complicated and pretty much what one would expect from TV writers. The story centers around Kylie Shines, the daughter of famous HOF race car driver Al Shines. Kylie lives with her aunt who has raised her since her mother died from ovarian cancer, a disease which plagues family TV specials. She is estranged from her father as she blames him for not being there (he was racing!) during important events in her life. The spoiled Kylie, who is successful in the junior circuit gets a chance to race with the big boys. The racing team which sponsors her father has canned him and replaced him with his daughter Kylie. She has a mechanic, who is in love with her, who she believes she needs for her race car. Meanwhile she meets Kid Walker (Jeff Gordon clone) a playboy and successful race car driver who beds her early on as she falls in love during two music montages. The movie climaxes with a publicity race between Kid, Kylie, and Al. No plot twists. The...

Care Bears: Hearts at Sea

A must have.
This collection of care bear eps. teaches great lessons in a fun and interesting way. The last 2 episodes are especially important as they teach safety. Get this for your kid now! Or if you're a fan for yourself. smile

Very Cute!!!
This is so far, the best collection of the Care Bears that I have seen. The seven stories on this disc are the ones I remember so well from my childhood. The seven episodes on the disc are:

Hearts at Sea: Grams tells a story of an adventurous young girl aboard a sailing ship.

Cheer Bear's Chance: Cheer Bear must prove herself when beastly and shreeky attack the S.S. Friendship.

A Hungry Little Guy: Beastly and Shreeky place a alien aboard the S.S. Friendship to create havoc among the Crew.

The Thing that came to Stay: A wild animal Cheer brings aboard the S.S. Friendship creates so much trouble that she soon learns animals should remain in the wild.

A day without Tugs: Tugs is sick and Hugs finds a new friend to play with, her shadow.

The Fabulous Care Bears Safety game: Grumpy hosts a new quiz game where contestants Hugs, Tugs, and Mr. Beastly tell us what they know about safety.

A Rhyme in Time: While Grams...

Awesome movie!
My children and I LOVED this DVD! (I used to watch these videos when I was a kid and like the tradtional care bears, not the new enhanced version). These stories captived my chldren's attention while teaching them how to be kind to others and well as safety! Worth every penny!

Abby in Wonderland

What a cute new Sesame Street character!
This is the first time I've seen the Abby character in the Sesame Street programs and she sure is cute! She has a darling voice which the little ones seem to find fascinating. Sesame Street always does a great job with their DVD's and they're a favorite here. It's nice that this one is a little longer at 40 minutes than the typical 30 minutes which seems to fly by.

The voices are cute, the movie is colorful with lots of activity and the story which is a take off on Alice in Wonderland with Abby taking the part of Alice is a good one. The Sesame Street cast takes the other parts, like the Cheshire Cookie Cat or Bert and Ernie as Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee.

About the only thing I would change and the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it isn't a "Fast Play" or auto start DVD. You have to wait for the menu to come up and click on play. It's nice to have movies which start over on their own like the Sesame Street Sleepytime Songs and Stories. But...

Put it on and give Granny a rest
Natalie loves Abby. Natalie goes non-stop. Abby slows her down for a while so Granny can catch her breath. Thank God for Abby!

Abby
My 2 year old daughter loves Abby Cadabby and asks for this movie constantly. She laughs hysterically at Abby's attempts at magic and the word "poof". Abby in Wonderland is a big hit in our household!

The Keeper

BACK TO BASICS
The career of Steven Seagal has jumped from high to low to mediocre. When he began his action film set the bar for fight sequences just as it had been set by Bruce Lee years prior. But as he aged and became more popular, his films began to take on a different tone, preaching instead of fighting, made by less skilled directors more focused on his acting ability than his martial arts skills. And it was those skills that drew fans to the seats, not the acting.

This is not to say that Seagal's acting skills aren't up there. While made fun of by impersonators and joked about by night time talk show hosts, he's actually not bad. Unfortunately a number of his movies were. But that involved more plot lines, scripts and directors who didn't quite no how to use him. Such is not the case with THE KEEPER.

Seagal returns to form as tough as nails cop Rolland Salinger whose dirty partner shoots him during the film's opening sequence. Rolland survives and even gets revenge when...

He's not only getting older, he's getting better
Lots of his direct-to-DVD flicks are hit and miss (I like 'em all), but this movie was better than most. Maybe he's working out, or losing some weight from his TV show, whatever the reason: Seagal is getting into better shape, and the quality of the D2D movies are better as well (I do not miss the crappy voiceover dubbing of some of his movies).

297 Pounds of neck snapping glory!
Recently wrapping up of very enjoyable October month of nothing but horror we decided to get back into another foundation; glorious b action. What better way to start the evening off then with a double feature opening with the transcendent Death Ring? Absolutely nothing is exactly right. Naturally the only way to close it out would have to be with the legendary Steven "Panda Bear" Seagal. Now you may be wondering how we got our hands on The Keeper before it's release date. Well Sid and the old boy Seagal go way back and always get a pre-screen run before the masses get their hands on it's action packed goodness. Coming off some recent "less then desirable" features, The Keeper proved to be somewhat of a throwback to vintage Seagal. Sure he's still quite portly but smart as a whip and really picked up the a** kicking factor that he's famous for.

This round we start with Seagal playing the usual rogue LA...

Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures - The Complete Series

An Animation Lover's Wish Come True!
First of all... This is NOT the Mighty Mouse most people are familiar with. It's not the TerryToons Mighty Mouse you can find on any public domain DVD of "50 classic cartoons", nor is it the 70's Filmation Mighty Mouse that was so bad it was funny... This Mighty Mouse IS funny!

From the depraved mind of Ralph Bakshi and the animation genius of John Kricfalusi, this cartoon remains to be one of the funniest cartoons of the 80's. It featured a satirical approach to the superhero genre blending wackiness, weirdness and often social parody.

This is THE cartoon that was forcibly removed from the airways because an overzealous Kentucky soccer mom accused Mighty Mouse of snorting cocaine (when in reality the morally conscious mouse was simply stopping to smell the flowers).

This cartoon is wild! Classic Mighty Mouse characters such as girlfriend Pearl Pureheart and villain Oil Can Harry return, but not quite as we remember them. The series introduces...

Brilliant, Except When it Isn't
I was in middle-school when this show was on TV, and it stuck in my mind long after other cartoons had been forgotten. Thrilled as I was to see it again on DVD, I approached with some trepidation ... after re-watching TinyToons last year and being disappointed at how poorly THOSE had held up, I was ready for the agony of acknowledging my distorted recollection of another favorite from my youth. Thankfully "Mighty Mouse the New Adventures" is every bit as good as I remember. Mostly.

It's an amazing show. The writing is brilliant and it is full of visual gags that were lacking in most Saturday Morning tripe at that time. The animation renaissance of the early 1990s can be traced directly to this show. It shows clearly the origins of the Spumco style .. Here are the strange, retro/cubist character and background designs, the bizarre story and gag ideas, the emphasis on emoting rather than on constant frenetic movement, and the use of voices that don't sound like typical...

Be patient with this, and pay attention!
In watching these for the first time in many, many years, I realize that, like a lot of cartoons, much of it is hit and miss. But this is a very fast-paced 'toon, and there are tons of pop culture send-ups and references, sexual innuendos and throw-away lines that need your attention and do, in fact, remain pretty hilarious. Some of it verges on greatness. And also keep in mind that this particular cartoon in large part ushered in the era of Ren and Stimpy, et. al. that has ultimately led to Adult Swim. In that regard, it's influence cannot be overstated.

Defying Gravity: The Complete First Season

Defying Gravity - The First and Only Season
Defying Gravity is the story of eight astronauts who begin a record setting tour of the solar system. The mission is billed to both the crew and the world as an example of human achievement and satisfying humankind's desire to explore the unknown, but it soon becomes clear that there is much more to the mission than this. Before reaching their first destination, Venus, the crew discovers the 'Beta Object', and the true nature of their quest is revealed.

This show is full of mystery and unanswered questions that leave you with great anticipation for the next episode. Throughout the season, we get to know the crew through their interactions on the spaceship Antares and through their memories of what happened on Earth before the mission. The characters struggle with the complications of friendships, romance, and passion both on the Antares and Earth, which test their integrity and strength as human beings. In addition to the interpersonal challenges, the Beta Object is...

BEST SHOW
I have been obsessed with this show. It has such a great story, the actors are great, I cant say enough about it. We need more seasons. I was so upset when ABC stopped airing it. I think it would fit wonderful on the SyFy network. I really hope the writers can get this back on tv for more seasons. There is a huge following for this show. There are 2 fan site pages on Facebook with updates and lots of neat info about the show. (Defying Gravity and Save Defying Gravity) I would trade all shows that I normally watch on TV for this ONE SHOW!!! (i no longer watch ABC) CANT WAIT FOR THE DVD!

<333
Most shows, even shows I love, I don't buy, with few exceptions, because most shows I just don't feel I'd ever watch again. This is an exception. This show is so amazing; how ABC could drop it is completely beyond me. Someone already said it, but I had been thinking it for awhile now - this show is so great, I'd swear off all other shows for this one.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (Two-Disc Edition)

Cloudy with a chance of awesome, more like it.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (Phil Lord and Chris Miller, 2009)

There are some movies where you come out of the theater talking about the camerawork and the acting, discussing plot points, picking things apart, arguing whether it was really the seventy-eighth best movie you've ever seen. And there are some movies where you exit the theater and say "Dude. That was AWESOME." Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is very much of the latter variety; no matter how silly and/or stupid the final half-hour may be (as the few critics who didn't like it have pointed out), it's still a blast.

Flint Lockwood (voice of Bill Hader, recently of Tropic Thunder) is a bumbling inventor who comes up with things that are kind of useful ("The Hair-Unbalder!" is the movie's first big laugh), but generally stupid. He lives on a small island just off the coast, the entire economy of which is derived from the sardine industry. It collapses, we learn, when the rest of the world realizes...

Digital Copy Only Works on PSP
First, I loved the movie. My complaint is not with the film but with the so called digital copy that is indicated as included on the cover. The "Digital Copy" included with this blu-ray can only be used on a Sony PSP when installed via a Sony PS3. I often preorder these family movies because I want to have the digital copy for my son to watch on my laptop or iPod. Had I known that this digital copy would not work like every other digital copy I've purchased; I would not have paid retail. I will certainly be thinking twice before purchasing another Sony blu-ray with a "Digital Copy."

Blu-ray: Enjoyable animated film - Note: A 3D version on Blu-ray is coming out later this year
In 2009, the animated film "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" was released in theaters. Adapted from the popular book from 1978 by Judi Barrett and illustrations by Ron Barrett, CWACoM took three years to develop and feature animation by Sony Pictures Animation.

The film adaptation and direction is by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (both are executive producers of the popular CBS sitcom "How I Met Your Mother" and also the MTV animated series "Clone High"). Music is by Mark Mothersbaugh ("Fanboys", "Mama's Boy", "Lords of Dogtown") and the film is produced by Pam Marsden (producer of "Dinosaur" and "Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas").

"Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" received positive reviews from critics and debuted at #1 in the box office, raking in $180+ million worldwide. Now the film gets its first Blu-ray release and includes the Blu-ray, the DVD and a digital copy (a code is provided to download a digital copy from the PlayStation Network) for...

At a high school graduation party, overweight Chris Brander (Ryan Reynolds) attempts to reveal his true feelings for his best friend Jamie Palomino (Amy Smart), but ends up making an utter fool of himself. What's worse, his humiliation takes place in front of his jeering teenage peers. A decade later, Chris has become a success story. He is now thin, prosperous, is a hit with girls, and works as an executive in the music industry. His latest assignment is escorting wacky starlet/pop princess and ex-flame Samantha James (Anna Faris) to Paris, France. But their plane has to make an unscheduled landing in Jersey, Chris's high school home. Rationally, Chris and Samantha decide to stay at his old house. Chris has a reunion with his former buddies, including the winsome Jamie, who immediately rekindles that old spark within Chris. The remainder of the film concerns Chris's efforts to make Jamie see him as more than a friend, while simultaneously fending off the warped Samantha. Competition...

not a blu-ray
This is not hi-def quality. It's lo-def recorded onto a blu-ray disc. All the cost, none of the detail. Doesn't even have the extras that are on the dvd. For the record, I loved this movie and was very anxious to get it in hi-def, but this was a complete rip-off. Don't waste your money. Just get the dvd.

You'll always be fat to me!
This movie definitely turned out to be better than expected. I'd just seen "Waiting", which was decent, so I was interested to see what this Ryan Reynolds film would have to offer.

This movie had a much better storyline than did "Waiting..." It was very refreshing to see Ryan Reynolds play a character that wasn't Van Wilder-esque. He gives a very funny performance as the fat-kid turned Hollywood man-about-town who returns home and reconnects with the girl who broke his heart in his youth.

The movie is funny right off the starting line and remains funny throughout.

thirtysomething: The Complete Second Season

Wonderful DVDs, but a problem
I just received this DVD set. The commentaries are interesting and insightful, and it's great to see the uncut episodes for the first time in over twenty years. I have only watched one of the discs, but have found what I consider to be a big production problem. On Disc 1, episode 2 "In Re: The Marriage of Weston", the scenes have been edited out of order. It's very obvious, but to be certain I compared the DVD with a copied episode from "Lifetime". Two sequences stand out. On the DVD, early on Hope and Ellyn giggle about the instructor at the art center and Hope intimates he and Nancy have slept together. However, the scene where Nancy gets the art center job and meets the instructor comes later in the DVD. Likewise, there is a scene where Nancy angrily confronts Elliot about contacting a Realtor to sell the house, and rips him for instructing Ethan not to tell her. The scene in the DVD where Elliot is showing the Realtor the house and admonishing Ethan not to tell his mother...

Fantastic show, flawed DVD
That thirtysomething is finally out on DVD (after almost 20 years!) is the answer to one of my most fervent prayers. Or it would be.

Because the DVD is a letdown.

As with the first season DVDs, the technical quality of the remastering wavers considerably. There are entire portions that simply were not remastered at all. It's often one camera track, while the other camera track in the same scene has been remastered. So one moment you're watching a reasonably high resolution DVD, the next moment (cut to the other camera), it's TV and VHS tapes all over again: fuzzy contours, awful colors. And then back to the high resolution. And back to VHS. That quickly. It makes you dizzy. And mad.

In the second season, it gets increasingly worse - as if Shout Factory (the DVD manufacturer) had been running out of money, or time, or just not felt like doing it any longer. The worst episode I've seen to date is "Michael writes a story" (2nd season, # 13). About half...

Wonder and pathos
I had forgotten how good and original this series was. 16 years since I first watched it, it still delights, and has not aged, but matured. Some episodes would win awards as free standing dramas. The characterization is excellent, the performances outstanding, the drama real and moving, and the team work unequalled since The Big Chill. The direction and writing deserved the awards they won. Five stars.

Girlfriends: The Final Season

Very SERIOUS season; no longer a sitcom! Unresesolved issues!
I have watched all seasons of Girlfriends. I got addicted in the first 3 seasons and anxiously wanted to know what Toni was upto. After Jill Marie Jones left, I continued to watch the show just because I needed a rsolution for the series. The Eigth Season does NOT give you that resolution.

The Eighth Season was very serious. I was exhausted watching one heartache after another: boyfriend in the war, living in a crack house, losing a baby, etc..

With all the seriousness, I did like one episode though. William was called "aggressive" at work and no one laughs at his joke. As a black professional, I could definitely relate to that storyline. At work, all the boring stories by a certain group is funny, as soon as I say something they look at me like I am speaking a foreign languae. We definitely are treated differently in the workplace. This episode highlighted WHY Girlfriends was so gooooood in the early years. The show tackled topics and issues that really...

ripoff to a HUGE fan
I have diligently and faithfully bought Seasons 1-7. And I advise you keep your money....Season 8 of Girlfriends is a RIPOFF!!!!!!

Thought for sure there would be at least one final episode that didn't air....well, to my disappointment there are only 2 disks and not a single additional episodes....for the same $28 as every other season. SAVE YOUR MONEY and have someone burn a copy of this mess. What an awful end to a fabulous series.

Not Worth It
This season is deff weak, not worth it at all. i seen season 7 and at least thats a lil bit better. But im not gonna front the last two season have really gone down since Tony Childs left!

Damages: The Complete Second Season

Still Great - But not as riveting as Season 1
Season 1 was taut and terrifying magic. Season 2 tries to mix in a major new storyline while still carrying forward the lethal fallout from last season's Arthur Frobisher case. Although teasing and confusing the viewer are part of the stylistic tone of this production, things got a little muddy with too many characters in mid-season. Still, the Season Finale was so brilliant, it more than paid off its mid-season markers. Meanhile, the acting of the major characters - Rose Byrne deserves more credit, IMHO - continues to shine.

Sometimes Less Is More
The first season of "Damages" was brilliant.

The second season was very good as well. But, it seems to be missing something.

Upon reflection, I believe the missing ingredient was villians who were just as compelling as the "heroes."

In Season 1, the series benefitted greatly from Ted Danson's portrayal of the wayward billionaire Arthur Frobisher. Danson's Frobisher was equal parts "average joe made good" and inaccessible, plutocratic jerk; the rare character who you find yourself both repulsed by and rooting for. (This combination made him a yin to Patty Hewes's yang.)

There are no "villians" who the viewers can identify with in the 2nd season. The primary antagonist in this installment was an industrialist who would not acknowledge the illegal dumping of hazardous waste because he would "have his company taken away from him" if he did. There's nothing nuanced, complicated or vaguely sympathetic about that.

Glenn Close once again...

Moral relativism
I am not a TV addict. I only watch news (CNN, BBC, DWTV) and football (the real one, not the USaberration). But there are always exceptions... Like now, I am stuck at home with a cold, have to cancel a trip to avoid swine flu quarantine.
What does one do with mountains of windfall time, when one is not fit for serious pursuits? Either one reads pulp fiction, or Hegel (just joking), or one watches TV show DVDs.
This is how I ended up investing hours, that I could have used more productively, with Damages, Season 2. I never watched Season 1, which is supposed to be better, more coherent, more compact. (Watching DVDs when sick has social advantages over reading; one can more easily share the activity.)

My conclusion: if you have to waste your time, this series is not the worst of all options!
What do you get? You get a high society crime soap, focused on a female lawyer, Glenn Close, with unclear morality. You get a beautiful young colleague and co-worker of...

Durham County: Season One

Durham County is a brilliant, yet dark and disturbing series
A few years ago I discovered this show called "Durham County" which is shown in Canada. Soon after I began watching it I realized this is a special type show. It was like nothing I had really watched before, as most shows, at least here in the US, tend to be "Safe". There are exceptions such as Sons of Anarchy or Dexter or The Shield, but by and large most shows have a "we won't cross this line" mentality that prevents it from seriously going in a direction that might be seen as offputting to a number of viewers.

Thankfully Durham County's network does not have that mentality, and so it has allowed this brilliant show to be crafted in a way that is unsettling and not at all "safe". The show is completely unpredictable and in fact the one thing that IS predictable is how you will feel afterwards. Kinda icky. And that's a great thing I think. Anytime a show can create these emotions inside you that make you question what you just watched is brilliant in my mind...

A Masterpiece
The box cover's description sounds a little cheesy, but these six episodes are a brilliant piece of storytelling. This is extremely intelligent, bleak, thrilling noir, with a great deal of subtext into dynamics between men and women, and male violence toward women. The writing is exemplary, as is the cinematography and performances. ... The best piece of television storytelling I've seen since The Wire.

Terrific; Bad Guy Ray Is Fabulous
I watched this because the "sort of good guy", the cop, is the really good guy on the Canadian series FLASHPOINT. He's part good and part bad as the cop in this small town where he relocates his family. Right across the street from him lives the big deal in town, a real bad guy, a complete psychopath. Naturally, he is such a good old boy in the town, lived there all his life, that everyone loves him. His name is Ray. Ray plays this between high camp and straight. He reminds me somewhat of Ian McShane in DEADWOOD but, of course, worse. This is great fun. "Ray" was so good that he won the Canadian version of the Emmy for this as lead actor.

Come Dance at My Wedding

Good, but not outstanding
A young woman is engaged to be married. She runs the family dance studio, which she inherited when her mother died. It had belonged to her grandparents before that. Developers come along and offer her really good money to sell the studio. She sees her opportunity to have the money to go to school and be able to make a difference in the world, and her fiance encourages that line of thought. The fly in the ointment is that the family attorney (Roma Downey) informs her that her father's name is on the deed. She has never known her father and didn't even know he was still alive. On the flip side, he never knew he had a daughter.

Her parents had met while teaching dance on a cruise ship. When her father returned home with her mother after the cruise her grandparents wouldn't let him move in to their home unless the two got married--so they did. Her mother soon decided that he was going to feel tied down and possibly end up leaving them later, so when he left town temporarily for...

Perfect for my family
I first watched this movie on the Hallmark channel several months ago. I have a niece who is getting married this summer and she took ballet and other dance lessions for almost twenty years. She also taught dance and captained her dance squad in both high school and college.

Watching this movie brought a lot of memories back, and then having a father appear in her life just added to the enjoyment.

I purchased it so I could send it to my sister, and as expected she enjoyed it as much as I did the first time I watched it.

A HALLMARK FILM--always good and family friendly
A young adult girl is on the verge of her marriage. To complicate the moment, already compromised by the loss of her mother just a couple months earlier, she is approached about selling her dance studio. The studio had been her mother's and Cyd (Brooke Nevin)is doing some serious consideration toward the sale. After all, the dancing was really her mother's dream. There is a hitch in the estate, since the deed includes Cyd's father, Tanner (John Schneider) one she never met, or knew anything about.

He's contacted through the help of Cyd's lawyer, who was also a close friend of her mother, Laura (Roma Downey). They meet, it's good, but Tanner's not sure about Cyd selling the studio. This leads to some interesting relationship issues, in many different places, young and old. Oh yes, and expect your heart to be stolen by little Amber (Sydney Stamler) a sweet little scene stealer, appearing periodically all through the movie.

Bottom line, it's Hallmark, and the ending...

Aziz Ansari: Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening

Aziz tells the tale of his roommate's possession by Scar, the villain of "The Lion King"
This hour long stand up special is absolutely hilarious. It's also incredibly offensive... I repeat, INCREDIBLY offensive! Therefore, if you are at all squeamish, or sensitive about particular subjects, this one is best left untouched. It also bears mentioning that you should never, EVER attempt to watch Aziz go to work while in the company of your children, or you will be thoroughly, permanently, irredeemably embarrassed. There are moments in here that simply can't be undone, once digested.

However, if you enjoy Aziz's antics and hard-R comedy, this is the gig for you. There is nobody quite like Aziz in the world of stand up. Everything about him is unique- his appearance, his material, and his delivery. He's just a delightfully weird funny man, and it's easy to see why he has become an integral part of "Parks and Recreation".

love it
i found this pretty funny i love it my brother and i laughed at it too bad he doesnt have more

great til the end
I love this comedian! He's witty, brilliant, adorably self-depreciating, easy on the eyes, and great at giving you a laugh over the stupid (and sometimes trivial) things people do. I enjoyed this clear up until the end with the slapstick "Randy" bit. (I guess "Randy" is a character from a movie he did called "Funny People," which I never saw. With the singular exception of "Little Nicky" Adam Sandler movies just don't appeal to me!) Other than that, and his tendency to name drop, there are a lot of laughs to be had here. His other special, the one you can only buy from his website, is better IMnsHO, but this one is definitely worth watching too. He's young so hopefully he'll grow out of the name dropping phase soon!

ESPN Game of the Century: 1969 Texas Longhorns vs. Arkansas Razorbacks

A view from the author of "Horns, Hogs, and Nixon Coming"
I'm the author of "Horns, Hogs, and Nixon Coming," the 2002 book about this game and the events going on around it. Horns, Hogs, and Nixon Coming: Texas vs. Arkansas in Dixie's Last Stand Third Down and a War to Go

During the interviewing, research and writing process, I had a small TV with built-in VHS next to my computer and repeatedly watched a VHS of the broadcast. Slow motion, fast motion, pause, everything. It was from a showing on Arkansas television years later.

I was worried when I saw this DVD pre-listed that it would be the truncated version shown on ESPN Classic, which left out significant parts of the game and all but ignored Nixon's post-game visits to the dressing rooms to talk with, among others, Darrell Royal and Frank Broyles. Fortunately, it's a near-full version of the ABC broadcast, with Chris...

THE GAME
I waited all year to see this game in 1969. Unfortunatly the US Army had other plans for me. I was shipped to Germany just one week prior to
the game. A sergeant and I listened to the game on Armed Forces radio. This video was the first time I have seen the game. Even though I knew
what the outcome of the game was, I really enjoyed watching it. Any Longhorn fan or anyone that loves great college football games should own
a copy of this game. It ranks up there with the best ever played.

Texas vs. Arkansas Commentary
Relative to Mr. Luck's comments,I was fortunate to receive a copy of the full broadcast made directly from the ABC master perhaps ten years ago and the quality just isn't "good" compared to what we have become accustomed to. However, the quality "is what it is" and other than this, Mr. Frei's comments are accurate. His book was absolutely excellent and in-depth, covered all of the bases for the relevant materials, and remains the best of the summaries for this momentous contest. I also agree with Mr. Frei that the DVD could have included more but as an historical piece, it is deserving of purchase and thank goodness, falls more towards the "old school" manner in which college football productions were presented rather than today's ESPN media hyped, music-accommpanied, quick-cut addled messes. Mr. Frei's book is an absolute must for any college football fan, the DVD is a nice adjunct.

NFL Cincinnati Bengals: Best Games of the 2009 Regular Season

Good DVD, but Amazon description is wrong.
This DVD is just what the title says. Three of the best games from the Bengals 2009 AFC North Championship season. Nothing more.
Amazon says it includes a 5+ hour bonus disc of the 2009 HBO's Hard Knocks season. Wrong! No disc. I complained. Amazon sent me another DVD, again no bons disc. Amazon needs to take this "bonus disc" out of their description.
Also the DVD box says follow the Bengals through training camp...? None of that footage is included either.
Still, the games are great. Every play from these three games are included. No commercials and most of the time between plays (huddles, etc.) is omitted. Makes the game go very fast!
A Bengals fan should still buy it to re-live what was a pretty positive season. How often have the Bengals gone 6-0 in their division!! Who Dey!

Bengals 2009 Seaosn
Be careful. If you are expecting a different outcome, you will be disappointed. Spoiler Alert: The Bengals go 6-0 at home and still lose in the first round of the play-offs.

Like Stars on Earth (Two Disc DVD + CD)

The film is truly heartwarming, inspiring and I admit it made me shed a couple of tears. Highly Recommended!
In 2007, director Aamir Khan ("Earth", "Ghulam", "Ishq", "Rangeela" and a long list of other popular films) and writer/creative director Amole Gupte began work on "Taare Zameen Par" (Like Stars on Earth). After its screening in theaters, the film received was critically acclaimed, amassed several awards but most importantly raised awareness of dyslexia in India but also around the world.

Now this remarkable film is available on DVD in the US from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment with a special 3-disc set which includes a bonus DVD with special features and the original soundtrack for the film. Plus two postcards featuring the two award winning artwork from the film.

"Like Stars on Earth" revolves around an 8-year-old boy named Ishaan Awashthi (played by Darsheel Safary), a boy who is repeating his third-grade. A child who is imaginative and also creative but once he sees words or mathematical problems, they are backwards. But because of this, it affects...

One of the best movies ever
I am only two weeks shy of turning 59, but I have to say this is one of the best movies I have ever seen. This story of a child shunned by his teachers, his own father, his peers, as someone who is lazy and does not apply himself to the way of success is happening in India, but could be happenning anywhere in the modern world.

He has trouble with reading and writing as letters seem dancing in front of his eyes. Everyone blames him for not concentrating and trying harder instead of even considering he may be suffering from dyslexia.

I am not going to say more about him because I do not want to spoil the story of this beautiful film.

The film is bilingual, Hindi and English. I am quite concerned that Amazon is listing English as the only language for this release. Surely there is enough room on a 3-DVD set for two tracks, the original and the English dub! That is an absolute must, a condition without which I have no intention of buying it...

What an event!
I don't believe I have seen a quality movie such as this from Bollywood. Maybe Salam Bombay.

I am getting to know this Amir Khan dude. WoW! freaking amazing work.

This ain't your typical bollywood fare...and neither is this a pseudo "intellectual" garbage from West Bengal. I mean, no offense.. I like those eye candy movies from Bollywood. But this was absolutely shockingly good.

Now, I am sitting here googling to find out who those players are... particularly the kid. I was endeared to this kid in about 2 minutes. Yup, it took me no more than 2 minutes to identify with him and take him in (Darsheel Safary as Ishaan Awasthi).

Amir Khan..Bravo!

No Greater Love

The power of love
Can love survive betrayal? A broken marriage? Ten years of separation? Full of drama, laughter, and some exciting plot twists, "No Greater Love" reminds us that "many waters cannot quench love, nor will rivers overflow it" (Song of Solomon 8:7).

The screenplay, sound score, and production quality of the film are all excellent. With one or two exceptions among minor characters, the acting is top notch. Quinn and Bisutti are brilliant in their lead roles and relationship. Best of all, we find a picture of redemption that ascends even beyond the story of one man and one woman to the only One who perfectly characterizes love: Jesus Christ.

It's difficult to compete with the big budgets and hi tech equipment of Hollywood, but movies like "No Greater Love" show that Christian studios are finally coming of age and making it to the big leagues. How encouraging that the greatest story in the universe - our redemption through Jesus Christ - is finally being told in...

Amazing Love
The movie No Great Love is about how amazing love is. The love that a husband has for his wife, the love that a father has for his son, the love that a person has for themselves to seek help from addictions, and best of all is the love that the Lord has for us. My family watched it and we laughed and cried. The Biblical truths, the drama, the romance, and the music in this movie rates a 10! We have been blessed by this movie!

Great movie!
I saw this movie and was really impressed with the production quality, depth of the plotline and most of all the solid message. Can't wait to get my copy -- I will be quick to share with many couples I know!

Top Gear: The Complete Season 11

The BBC hasn't learned much from the Season 10 release.
Yes, the Top Gear nuts are back- racing across Japan in a car v. bullet train challenge, reviving fox hunting using a fox-colored Daihatsu sports vehicle, testing which supercar is the most efficient in race conditions (the winner doing less than 5 MPG), and ruining British-German diplomatic efforts with a contest against a German auto show. If you like either cars or British humor, you will love this show- and this set.

Season 11 is of special interest for aficionados of Japanese culture, as not one but three films take place there: the aforementioned "epic race" of sports car v. Japanese public transport, the track test of the Nissan GT-R from said race, and James May using a Japanese luxury car to deliver sumo wrestlers to a tournament. For these sequences alone, in my opinion, the set is worth the money to anime fans.

THAT SAID... the same problems that existed with the Season 10 set remain. The episodes are NOT completely uncut- Top Gear Stuntman's sequences...

Only 6 Episodes and No Extras
Americans who buy the entire "season" of Top Gear need to be warned that, in typical BBC series fashion, their "season" has only a fourth of the episodes that we're used to. Why this is troubling isn't the content or the show itself, which is bloody brilliant. Even someone like me, who isn't a gear-head and can't tell an Italian sports car from a Ford Focus, can love this show and the three guys with their boyish antics. I can't get enough of it. But with a season of only 6 episodes and absolutely no other extras at all, I can't justify the price (although this season just had its price lowered by Amazon--some of the other seasons are still priced at $30, or $5 per episode. That's why I only gave it 3 stars--the show deserves 5 stars, but the price should have gotten zero.

bloody brilliant
This has to be the best way to watch Top Gear! Has the play all feature which is a must for TV series on DVD. The shows are so smooth compared to how they are on TV.

Bridal Fever

A guilty pleasure...
Ok, so it's definitly a "chic flick" but had to own it just the same. Every year when this comes on, I thought about getting it, so I finally got over the laziness and bought it. I like just about anything Andrea Roth is in, so I'm very happy with my purchase. It's kooky and follows the standard rom/com basics. Only requires a bowl of popcorn and a rootbeer to have a marvelous night.

Bridal Fever - Would Watch Again
I like good clean movies (or as clean as you can get nowadays). Bridal Fever was pretty good. There were a few utterances of mild crude language, use of alcohol, low cut tops and strapless dresses seen occasionally on women. There were also suggestive images on several romance novels in the bookstore. The theme is a little more mature, as it has to do a lot with dating and divorce. I enjoyed the movie and would watch it again. There were several parts that I thought could have been better, but all it was entertaining.

I didn't like the fact that everyone seemed to think that getting married was all that mattered. If you are single and beautiful, then there is no reason on earth why you shouldn't be married. You don't have have anything in common with the guy or even love him. All you have to do is "seal the deal"...luckily Gwen eventually realizes this is wrong and marries the guy of her choice.

I also thought that Gwen's friend, Sandra, was mean at the...

Chick flick
Definitely a chick flick and it has been on TV many times but I bought it anyway so I could watch without commercials. It's a fun movie but I have to say, Andrea Roth says she was reading Jane Austen at 10 in the movie, yet mispronouces Wuthering Heights by saying Withering Heights. Sometimes these actors need to have a bit more depth into their parts to come off believable.

Becker: Three Season Pack

When there is nothing on.....
When there is nothing on worth watching, which is frequently, it's Becker Time! This is one of those series where everything worked. Perfect cast. Perfect scripts. Everything. I wish they were still on but at least they are on dvd. I highly recomend Becker, the series. Good clean fun yet addressing issues that surround us everyday.

Great set!
I have to admit I have not watched every epiosde of all three seasons yet but so far I am thrilled with the set. I wish the whole series was available as it would be nice, and probably more economical, to purchase the series as a set. The three season pack was nice though and I hope the rest of the series is offered in similar packs as I will purchase the remaining seasons as they become available. Some people may find the filming a little "grainy" but I don't think this is the video quality; I have watched it on the channels where it is in syndication and it looks the same so I think this is the way it was filmed originally-just not that crystal clarity that we are used to with most things now. Overall an excellent set.

Becker Series DVDs
Becker (played by Ted Danson) is a grumpy neighborhood doctor, but his patients, office assistants and friends at the coffee shop all love him anyway. The Becker programs are very funny and evoke lots of laughter -- which we can all use these days.

ER: The Complete Twelfth Season

My Least Favorite Season
ER had some ups and downs it's last five seasons, and this was the lowest point. Why? I can sum 90% of it up in one word: Africa.

After leaving the show in the season 11 finale, it was announced that Noah Wyle would return for several episodes in season 12. That sounded great...at first.
Then the episodes aired, and it was more of Dr. Carter in Africa. The writer's already made their points with this storyline in season 10. The Africa episodes in season 12 simply don't add anything to the story, and are just more of the same.
Granted, none of these Africa episodes are as bad as "Makemba" from season ten, but
they still consume too much of season 12.

And now for the other 10% of the problems.

There is an episode in the first half of the season callled "dream House", and it is probobly the worst non-Africa episode of the series. It focuses on Abby and Neela treating a baby Monkey. There were other occasions where animals were treated in...

E.R. Rocks!!
I really love E.R., it is definetly one of my all time favorite t.v. shows. I plan on purchasing all of the box sets as they become available. This season(12), marks a real change in County Hospital, I think. Noah Wylie (Dr. John Carter) has left to go to Africa to be with his love, Kem, and Dr. Luca Kovac is now in charge. I really enjoyed most of the episodes in this season, and am anxious to see what season 13 holds in store. I've not seen any of the episodes after this season, so 13-15 is all new to me, as I was always working on Thursday nights when the episodes originally aired, and syndication hasn't shown many, if any of season 13.
I do wish they would go ahead and release the next three box sets sooner, seein that E.R. is no longer on network t.v. Oh, well, patience is a virtue, huh?!

Africa, anyone?
Just like previous seasons of ER, as well as those of most typical television series, season 12 had its high points and low points. Probably the most criticized low point of this season are the Dr. Carter (Noah Wyle) focused "Africa" episodes. When Wyle left after the season 11 finale (in plot terms, he went to Africa to offer medical aid), it was announced that he would be appearing in several episodes of season 12. The concept sounded great on paper, but it feels like the writers just didn't execute it effectively. Much of Dr. Carter's screen time feels like a re-hash of previous plot elements that adds nothing to the plot and exists solely to bring the popular character back into the show. Thankfully, there are some other redeeming factors in season 12, but sadly the Dr. Carter "Africa" plot arc tends to weigh down the quality of the season a little too much for me.

Another big "controversy" in season 12 was the finale, "21 Guns." This became a seriously polarizing...

Top Gear: The Complete Season 12

Extras aren't enough to achieve perfection.
Yes, the mad men of Top Gear are back again- engaging in the insanity that the world of car lovers (and British comedy lovers) have joined in for years. This set contains the full Season 12 of the show (fall/winter 2008)... or does it?

Although the cuts generally aren't as bad as they were in Season 10's DVD release, they are there. As with the Season 11 set, Top Gear Stuntman is totally absent. Fortunately, other cuts are apparently quite minor- with every episode retaining both its News and Star in a Reasonably Priced Car segment.

The box advertises numerous extras... but don't be fooled. Half of the extras are confined to the Director's Cut of the Botswana Special (re-released here after its prior Season 10 set printing). The other extras are scattered- I didn't find the extended Boris Johnson interview or uncut Cool Wall on disc 2 until the second viewing, for instance. Take out Botswana (which was Season 10, not 12), and the extras are rather meager...

It is Top Gear. For free with Amazon Prime
Seriously, what's not to love when you get to watch the classic car show from UK anytime you want, anywhere you want, for this price!(Free with Amazon Prime)They tried remaking this in America but they never stood a chance at recreating the same level of entertainment that the British version has had for well over a decade now!

Battered by BBC editing from TV but still great
Officially "Top Gear" is a long running automotive show on Britain's BBC. In reality it is far much more. Hosted by 3 middle aged journalists with a shared passion for cars there is bombastic Jeremy, pedantic and detail oriented James and `happy puppy' Richard, who is usually caught between the other two. 3 young men playing with cars would get boring but 3 middle aged men, acting like kids? That gets fun.

Although the men have a passion for cars they know the general population does not care about compression levels and cylinder heads and drive ratios, the general population wants to know if it is fun. Each show has several regular segments such as test driving some high performance, very expensive car at their test track, discussing car news, which can get a bit off topic and having celebrity guests which after a brief interview have to drive a lap on their test track to compare their driving skills to other celebrities who've already been there. The more memorable parts...

Jon and Kate Plus Eight: Season 5 - Big Changes

A Great Price for an Incomplete Product
I have been a fan of "Jon and Kate Plus 8" since it debuted on Discovery Health. I have followed the show throughout its run and am a huge fan. I absolutely love that the seasons have been released on DVD. What I find frustrating is that the seasons are never complete. There usually seem to be missing episodes. And while the Season 1 & 2 combo had the first hour long special, "Surviving Sextuplets and Twins", the second hour long special that was filmed before becoming a regular series, "Sextuplets and Twins: One Year Later", has never appeared on any DVD release as a bonus feature.

This set is no different. There are episodes missing (including the series finale). Included as a bonus feature is the special "Kate: Her Story". However, when it originally aired it was an hour long special. Without commercials, it was between 40 and 45 minutes. The one included on this DVD set is severely edited and only runs about 15 minutes.

Here is a list of Season 5 episodes and...

Missing footage
While from what I can tell the eppisodes are complete the bonus of Kate: Her Story is only about 15min long which means thers about 30min of footage missing. That internview was an hour long, when you factor in commercials the interview was about 45min. It's bad enough that some of the other seasons are missing eppisodes, about 8 in all. But to put on an interview and edit it down is just WRONG. If they didn't want the whole thing there don't put any of it in.

the gosselins season 5
Well in this season the family fell apart and we see how fame and money get along sadly, but their own choice.

G.B.H.

A POLITICAL 7 PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER THAT'LL DRIVE YOU MAD
I was drawn into this story and could not pause between episodes, which may make me as loony as the crazies depicted in this series. GBH is the story of urban England political confrontation, how it draws and drains the sane and bewildered. A dialogue line sums it up best: "All of us are capable of being crazy at one time or other." A GBH understatement.

Michael Murray (Robert Lindsay) is a newly successful Labour Party council leader with a mysterious past that haunts him. He lords his power over particular people of his childhood. Mr. Weller, childhood headmaster, is targeted. Murray used psychological means of attack, & thugs when needed. A city-wide strike, Murray led, has one flaw, Jim Nelson (Michael Palin-"Monty Python"), headmaster to a school for special-needs kids. Pickets were not placed at that school through an error. Murray takes it personally and adds Nelson to his "get-him" list. Nelson doesn't need this, since he's already dealing with hypochondria and a...

Worth wading through a slow start
A slow start at first, with a real opportunity to take potshots at Robert Lindsay's occasional sinking into stereotype. Actually turns into a moving study of what happened to Labour just prior to the Blair ministry, as well as a well-handled, often comedic, more often tragic, study of the sinking of the lead corrupted Labour figure.

Astonishing
I haven't even begun to come to terms with this movie, nor am I quite sure that I understand what happens in it. New characters keep appearing, and it's sometimes hard to tell whether they are sympathetic or not, or to be sure of their relationships with the other characters. Mysteries from the past are important but obscure. All very confusing. Yet the acting is so compelling, from the entire cast, the passion of the movie so strong, that in our home we sat mesmerized throughout. It's a very bleak, disturbing, and comic portrait of Britain and British politics, in the final quarter of the 20th century, but not so different from that portrayed more gently in Judge Deed or Kavanaugh Q C, a political system corrupted by those close to the very top, Thatcherism in its worst form. (Much more lightly, the same theme is treated comically in Brassed Off, which closes with a moving attack on harsh, utilitarian, greedy government). GBH goes deeper and is tougher, in several senses, than...

Sorority Row [Blu-ray]

Sorority Row
Sorority Row is actually a fun, teen horror-y movie. I really liked this one, it was cheesy but fun. The acting isn't great -- it could of had better acting but I still enjoyed it! I couldn't help but get this one on Blu-Ray. The picture is really good too. The movie is very similar to I Know What You Did Last Summer, but hey, all [teen] horror/thrillers movies are like that now days! Like:
The Roommate (2011) >>> Single White Female
Obsessed (2009) >>> Fatal Attraction

In the end, it's a fun movie and it has some good scares!

SLASHER GOLD
What you see is what you get. This is a GREAT slasher, and CORRECTLY serves as a throwback to the 80s and 90s slashers we all loved so much. The kills are really creative and cool, the dialogue is funny and delightfuly cheesy. Means Girls + I Know What You Did Last Summer = Sorority Row...SLASHER GOLD!!

TRUST, HONOR, RESPECT, SECRECY, SOLIDARITY
You gotta love a movie that starts out with college girls jumping on a trampoline in pj's having a pillow fight. Clearly the writers know the formula for a successful slasher movie. The sorority girls are intelligent and snarky. Roofies? "A great way to have sex and get a good night's sleep all at the same time."

When one of the boyfriends of one of the girls cheats on him, they opt to play a joke on him. His gf pretends to be knocked out from roofies while he initiates sex. Then she vomits fake blood and pretends to die. In a fake panic the sisters take her and the unsuspecting bf out to a remote area to bury her, although she is not dead. In Hitchcock like fashion the boyfriend, Garrett, throws a wrench into the works...well okay a tire iron, but it had the same effect. Now with a real corpse, they decide to cover the whole episode up.

TV actress Leah Pipes plays Jessica. She is the blond ring leader of the group. Her dad is running for the senate. She is...

Birdie & Bogey

Birdie and Bogey
Even though he wasn't in it Chuck Norris was involved with this movie. His son started in it. Janine Turner and she also was in the movie with Sheree North. Sweet movie about a girl and her father and her love for him and the game of golf. can't go wrong with this movie if you are looking for something to watch.

Thankfully I had to return
I am so sorry to have to say this but this movie was excruciating to watch. I could not get past the terrible acting to find anything enjoyable or endearing about this movie. The movie actually froze about 1/3 of the way through and I could not fix it so it had to go back.

Save your nickel
I have sat through a lot of not so good movies, and this one makes most made for TV movies a home run in comparison. Although it had a tear jerker for a plot it was slow, payoff wasn't there, pretty predictable. Acting was way below par, seemed forced and unbelievable. Sorry Chuck.

Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman: The Complete Season Three (Slim Pack)

The Washita Massacre, The Wedding, and Colleen Redux
This review refers to the 3rd Season of Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman (DVD set/A&E)...

I hardly have to tell anyone, that is already shopping for Season Three, that this series is one of the best TV has to offer. You are already familiar and attached to the town of Colorado Springs, and the wonderful characters we have come to know and love. We know the history of the growing bonds and relationships that have already touched us, and maybe even feel a part of it by now. This makes this season all the more special.

Here's a taste of what you have to look foward to. "The Train" is coming to Colorado Springs, and has the town divided. A "Cattle Drive", has Dr. Mike's family and Loren mourning the death of Miss Olive, and herding her cattle, now left to Matthew, back to town. There are some great holiday episodes to enjoy, a trip to Washington D.C. to try to help the Cheyenne, and Dorothy's scare with breast cancer ("Ladies Night"/2 parts) mixes high drama with comic...

Dr. Quinn season 3
I loved the series when it was on, but season 3 is my particular favorite. The characters are more developed, and the storylines are terrific. There are so mnay great episodes during this season. "What is Love?" and "For Better or Worse" (the beautiful wedding) are two of my personal favorites. The commentary with Jane Seymour and Joe Lando during "For Better or Worse" is wonderful. It's interesting to get their view of what happened to make that episode. I definately recommend this season on DVD and any other Dr Quinn season!! It was a wonderful show.

A show to share with your whole family
I loved Dr. Quinn when it was on tv but now I have the opportunity to share this wonderfully rich show with my children and their grandparents. The treatment suffered by the indians, immigrants and by various people of the town have lead to many dicussions in our house after we watch them. This show has something for all ages and was filmed in a beautiful setting with a talented cast. Dr. Quinn is a wonderful role model for girls ( and she manages to do it with her clothes on!!!). It's too bad there aren't shows on tv now that can say the same. Some of my children's favorite episodes have been "The Library", "Cattle Drive" & of course "For Better or Worse". I hope they continue to release all the seasons. Won't it be great if they could get the cast to do a 2 hour Dr. Quinn movie?

Nurse Jackie: Season One [Blu-ray]

Awesome show - can't wait for season 2!
Having never watched the Sopranos (heresy, I know), I didn't have any preconceived notions of what type of person Edie Falco should or should not be playing. Many of my friends tell me that the character of Nurse Jackie is a far cry from her Carmelo Soprano alter-ego.

Jackie is a full time nurse in a public hospital in New York City. Like most nurses and emergency medical workers, she is overworked and underpaid and trying to make do with what life has handed to her. On the surface, she is hardworking nurse who is a loving mother of two little girls and a devoted wife to Kevin Payton who runs a local bar. Scratch the surface just a little bit and the perfect facade peels away to reveal a drug addicted adulterer who regularly breaks the laws in order to suit her own perceived morals.

Nurse Jackie tackles quite a few heavy subjects during its initial season including assisted suicide, underage children caring for their parents, as well as the rigors of raising...

Thumbs up from a nurse..
As a nurse, I love this show. You'd think I'd hate it, due to the fact that Jackie has a drug problem and she cheats on her husband. But, she is actually a good nurse in spite of her flaws. What I like about this show is that nurses aren't painted as helpmaids to the physicians. My problem with many of the medical shows is that they show doctors doing stuff that nurses do on a daily basis and the nurses are all but invisible.

Nurses aren't saints..we are professionals who want to be compensated for the work we do. And we're human. Sometimes, we're tired and cranky. Quite often, we're frustrated with a system that is more about the bottom line than actual patients. That's why Nurse Jackie rocks..because Jackie for all her faults and cynicism still gives a crap. She is a good nurse, and her faults can't change that.

I also enjoy the student nurse character..very realistic.LOL, she has that "deer in the headlights" look that we all had starting out..

A Perfect Platform for the Brilliance of Edie Falco
I see some complaints that "Nurse Jackie", as played by Edie Falco, is not a positive role model. They have a point - Jackie cheats on her husband with a pharmacist who thinks he is her main squeeze, so that Jackie can be kept with a steady supply of narcotics.

But like the proverbial onion, Jackie has layers, and like another of my favorite Showtime eponymous characters, Dexter Gordon, Jackie is not by any stretch "all evil" and she is never, ever boring.

Jackie's an adulterous druggie - but she's more. Years of having to literally manhandle patients in the Emergency Room more than twice her size have left Jackie with an aching back, and she could pursue more permanent treatment, but she and her family need this week's paycheck, so she masks her painful back with ill-gotten hard stuff. Merritt Wever plays Zoey, a young nurse who is everything Jackie is not - na

Bob the Builder: The Best of Bob the Builder

Charming, wholesome, and entertaining
My 22-month old grandson is captivated by Bob the Builder. At this point, he only focuses on the cute recurring characters, the talking construction vehicles, and the colorful and nicely animated stories. He never gets tired of watching it. (I'm the one who got this video because I'm practically able to recite the other one he has.)

But, although it's beyond his current comprehension, these are stories of good people behaving responsibly and considerately. They are presented in an entertaining and non-preachy manner, and the color, audio, and animation are beautifully rendered and nicely paced.

I should be jealous that my grandson learned to say "Bob" before "Grandma," but I'm so pleased with these videos that I don't mind.

A fine pick for any young viewer who can't get enough of Bob
Bob the Builder's indomitable can-do attitude has inspired countless young viewers. "The Best of Bob the Builder" is a compilation of some of the best adventures of Bob and his machines, which serve as both his tools and his best friends. With bonus features of never before seen stories, and DVD games, "The Best of Bob the Builder" is a fine pick for any young viewer who can't get enough of Bob.

Great for new or old Bob fans!
Aidan has not seen too Bob the Builder and this DVD really was a great introduction to some Bob favorites. He really enjoyed watching Bob and his friends build and work together and he get's really excited when he hears "Can we build it?" I thought the DVD was adorable and I especially love that it is 140 minutes of Bob-filled fun! I don't even think we have made it through the whole DVD yet as Aidan always want to start from the beginning! This DVD is also an exceptional value of about $15! I think it would be great for both new and old Bob lovers!

The Box [Blu-ray]

The altruism equation: Free or not free.
THE BOX is a masterpiece of ethical and moral dilemma masquerading as an ominous sci-fi suspense thriller. It may seem obscure and incomprehensible, but it's essentially just a story about the Golden Rule: What we do to others we do to ourselves.
The story is taken form an ironic little gem of a story by Richard Matheson (of TWILIGHT ZONE fame) called "Button, Button." The movie expands it into a Gordian Knot of obscure, seemingly unrelated events that inevitably, well... you'll see.
The central theme is altruism, which is basically the practical application of the Golden Rule (you know, do unto others as you would have them do unto you). The basic equation is that if enough people choose selfishness, eventually no one will be left. Yet I'm amazed by all the diverse interpretations and reviews, especially since the substance of the story is clearly stated at one point as the "altruism coefficient," that is, unless people learn to be altruistic they will either destroy each...

A Mystery That Will Push Buttons
"The Box" is one of those films where a lot of adjectives are necessary. It's taut and suspenseful, but it's also metaphysical, ponderous, cerebral, unexplainable, and above all, preposterous. It goes in all different directions, sometimes caught up in circles, sometimes taking detours, sometimes going completely off course. It's a bizarre, unpredictable story of intrigue and paranoia, continuously twisting and turning, pushing the limits of comprehension with a slew of seemingly unrelated concepts; we begin with a button and a suitcase full of money, but this soon gives way to spiritual quandaries and sinister science fiction subplots, the latter of which involves radio signals from Mars, physical disfigurements, and hordes of mind-controlled drones with bleeding noses. There's even an ongoing social experiment, which could be indicative of a morality play.

Based on Richard Matheson's short story "Button, Button" and its 1986 "Twilight Zone" adaptation, "The Box" takes...

Interesting thriller (undeserving of so many poor reviews)
My friend and I spent some considerable discussion time trying to find reasons for so many poor reviews for this film. There is one thing we both agree on: The Box is an auditory focused film. In fact, with only minor adjustments to the script, it would make a great radio play. So, unless you are committed to paying a great deal of attention to every word spoken, you are bound to get lost and confused by the complex plot. In these times of short attention spans, this is an obstacle the film makers may not have taken into consideration... Pity, as the film is actually quite original and the story intriguing.

The Box is based on a 1970 short story "Button, Button" by Richard Matheson (also the author of the celebrated "I Am Legend"). A financially overextended middle class couple receives a package containing a box with a button. A strange and grossly disfigured man later visits their house and explains should they choose to press the button, they will receive $1mil, tax...

Becker: The Third Season

One of the Most Underrated Shows on TV
Everybody thought "House M.D." was such an original show when it debuted in 2004 with its wise-cracking sarcastic Dr. Gregory House. Though this was more of a drama, nobody seemed to realize that Ted Danson is the one who made that popular, way back in 1998 as Dr. John Becker.

"Becker" is one of the funniest shows ever to hit TV, but sadly some casting changes and other behind-the-scenes squabbling brought the show to a slow demise after about six seasons. Ted Danson gives some of his best work here. If you think the rants of Dr. Cox on "Scrubs" are funny, just wait until Becker storms into his office ranting about the bums on the street, the city health department, the justice system, humanity in general or any one the upteen-million things that seem to make him angry.

The true heart of this show is it's sheer originality and unique characters - Becker's dim-witted female assistant, Linda, could have been a walking cliche were she portrayed by a busty blond,...

Becker
Becker; was the best TV series for six years. I have purchased each season that has come out each year. I am not sure why Amazon or CBS does not bring the last three seasons out all this year, but this is my big wish.

This program has the same political issues and work, family and friends that never get old or stale. It is a true ensemble show. As I watch it I always find something to laugh at. I do not get any of these classic TV shows in my area so I really enjoy the DVDs.

There is no extras so don't expect any frills, just fun. I highly recommend.

Hilarious!
I pretty much cannot stand Ted Danson personally. I don't like his politics or just about anything else about him, but he is a very funny actor and this series is hilarious. I never watched it when it was on TV (because I don't like Ted Danson), but when the series ended, I walked in one day and my teenage son was watching an episode, so I sat down and grudgingly watched with him and was roaring with laughter. So now we're collecting the show on DVD and each season has been really great. Highly recommend this to anyone who wants to laugh.
